Event story

The ELEVENTH clean event in the SCUBA #picuptrip and our New Years Day clean was a very childish occasion!

SCUBA's start to 2019 could NOT have gone any better with the next generation of Hue coming to help us clean the beautiful Perfume River! 22 school children who are apart of the Hue Reading Group turned out in the cold and rainy river to clean unfortunately, one of the most dirtiest areas yet (bar Vinh Luong).

The children were absolutely amazing and got really involved; we made fishing rods from sticks and even fished out from the furthest points of the river weed we could reach! In 1 hour we had completely cleaned the riverbank and even pulled out lots of plastic pollution from underneath all the reeds and mud.

This clean represented exactly what we want to see from our plastic cleans; children learning how to protect the oceans and encouraging their classmates to do so. They are the future and they want the ocean to be a part of theirs.

In the end we cleaned 7 bags of plastic trash in 1 hour removing 35KG's from the river which would have taken it straight down to the ocean!

A big thank you to all who joined the clean and we will be back in Hue soon enough!
